You might be wondering what can the movies Wanted and Kung Fu Panda have in common?! Believe it or not, their plots were almost identical. In Wanted‘s case, a nerdy no-life Joe Schmo realizes he has extra-special adrenaline powers that make him a Super-Assassin so he can kill the bad guy. In Kung Fu Panda‘s case, a big fat no-life Joe Panda realizes he has extra-special believe-in-himself kung fu powers so he can kill the bad guy.

Here’s a comparison:

Kung Fu Panda
Average panda gets power

Wanted
Average nerd gets power

Kung Fu Panda
Helped by an older and wiser sage-type

Wanted
Helped by an older and wiser badass-type

Kung Fu Panda
Sexy tiger has doubts about him then believes

Wanted
Sexy Angelina has doubts and then believes

Kung Fu Panda
Mistaken father identity subplot

Wanted
Mistaken father identity main plot

Kung Fu Panda
Team of kung fu experts train panda

Wanted
Team of assassins train nerd

Kung Fu Panda
Bad guy trying to kill panda

Wanted
Bad guy trying to kill nerd

Wanted‘s plot takes a severe left turn when the bad guy is (spoiler, highlight to read) actually nerd’s father. If only the movie had stuck to the rock solid plot of Kung Fu Panda it would have been great. But Wanted fell flat on its badass violent face. Take it from the Dreamworks animation team, Wanted: Should have stuck with the Panda Formula. Skadoosh.
